Bart Hendrickx (°1977) received his master’s degree in philosophy from the Free University of Brussels (VUB) in 1999. Inspired by Emmanuel Levinas, he believes that in meeting the Other you understand existence.
Studying photography (2010 – 2015) at the Art Academy of Leuven, he realized that images are a reflection of that process. Photography and philosophy have to bring us towards a place where meaning collapses. It has to do with that what disturbs identity, system and order.
Bart tries to be rebellious, to disrupt the power of the ego. He recognizes his rebellion is an attempt and considers therefore his photographic work as “fragments of an amphibious life”.
